There are a myriad of directions a house can face so for the sake of this discussion the only ones used will be north, south, east and west. No mention of north by northeast or any other more complicated directions will be used to keep this simple. There are many reasons to face the door or entry to the east. Most of them are due to spirituality and the fact that you can wake up to the morning sun streaming into your home. If your luxury mansion house plans don’t allow for an east facing entry then others are equally as advantageous, especially if you are not Native American and believe the door should face the east.

Having the main living area with windows facing the south is a good idea due to the fact that the sun is low on the horizon in the winter and can heat your house through the windows. The north side is always in the shade and will even grow moss in the desert during the winter. Even if your plans are simple bungalow house plans the setting of the structure on the property is key to enjoying the house.

If you study or believe that Feng Shui has something to offer, hiring a practitioner may be a good idea. If in your luxury home plans you have included an art studio, the classic setting for that is facing north. That way you will never have direct sun coming in the window. It will always be diffused light bouncing into the room. That makes for wonderful Rembrandt lighting.

That was the question I asked my friend a few years ago when he suggested me that. Each time I visited him (not quite often, I must say. 150 miles are separating us), I used to be amazed of his cottage. It looked so beautiful outside and so efficient in its space usage, I was sure he paid architect to design it (and he can sure afford it, trust me). One day, as I told him I wish I could build house like his own, he instantly replied – So go and choose one design.

There are thousands of them. Who do you think designed this house? At first I couldn’t believe, but when he showed me the blueprints and a website with so many small house designs, I understood that you can buy the blueprint for your dream house  from a website, and it would significantly less expensive than custom designs. And when I say less expensive, I’m talking about thousand of dollars. Try and look for cottage or log cabin blueprting – no architect will charge you less than 5 to 7 thousand dollars, whereas stock plans would usually cost you no more than $700.

Usually you’ll build one house in your life. You want to put all your resource and much of your fortune into it. So why don’t you use the experience and knowledge of a professional home designers and architects, that have designed hundreds and thousands of houses, all in a very affordable cost?

It is common practice to have a home you may purchase inspected. They will review all portions of the home looking for damage or other items and systems that may be in need of repair. This is your chance to have the plumbing, electrical system, building structure, roof and siding examined. There are many companies in the greater New York area that specialize in these types of inspections. To ensure you will not be saddled with costly repairs, it is best to use a professional home inspector when purchasing any home. Take their advice and hire a company known for new roofing in Brooklyn or exterior siding in Brooklyn if your inspector deems it necessary.

Your inspector will carefully check for damage, leaks, holes, soft spots and more in the roof of the home you would like to buy. They will also be able to determine if any damage to the roof is ‘cosmetic’ or if it is structural which will require more extensive repairs. They will often times be able to provide you with a general estimate to the cost of the repairs to the roof. For siding, your inspector will check for cracks, warped pieces of siding, discolorations and signs of leakage. He will be able to determine what your siding is made of and how much it will cost to repair it.

Using a professional home inspector to review any home you are purchasing is crucial. If you need to hire a new roofing company in Brooklyn or even simply a company specializing in exterior siding in Brooklyn, the actual cost of your home may be much greater than what you paid for it. Be sure to take the time to have any home inspected.
